Financial Aid Eligibility
Helping You Invest in Your Future
At the Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations (ANHO), we understand that financing your education is an important part of achieving your career goals. Our Financial Aid Office is committed to helping students understand their financial aid options and navigate the application process.
Financial assistance is available to students who meet applicable eligibility requirements. Eligibility varies based on individual circumstances, enrollment status, program eligibility, and funding availability.
Applying for Financial Aid
The first step in applying for federal financial aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
To apply:
- Visit studentaid.gov.
- Create or sign in to your StudentAid.gov account.
- Complete the FAFSA for the appropriate award year.
- Include ANHO as a school to receive your FAFSA information.
- Submit any additional documentation requested by the Financial Aid Office.
Students must complete a new FAFSA for each award year in which they wish to be considered for federal financial aid.
The FAFSA is free to complete.
Federal Financial Aid Eligibility
ANHO participates in the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loan programs. Financial aid is available to students who meet applicable federal eligibility requirements and are enrolled in an eligible program.
To qualify for federal student aid, students generally must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
- Have a high school diploma, recognized equivalent, or otherwise meet an applicable federal educational eligibility provision.
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible program.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Meet applicable federal requirements regarding prior student loans, grants, and other eligibility conditions.
- Complete the FAFSA and provide any required supporting documentation.
Financial aid eligibility is determined in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
Types of Financial Assistance
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant provides financial assistance to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. Unlike a loan, a Pell Grant generally does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances.
Eligibility and award amounts are determined by federal requirements, including FAFSA information, enrollment intensity, and other applicable factors.
Federal Direct Subsidized Loans
Direct Subsidized Loans are available to eligible undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The federal government generally pays the interest while the student is enrolled at least half-time and during other qualifying periods.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans
Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to eligible students regardless of financial need. Interest begins accruing when the loan is disbursed, and the borrower is responsible for the interest.
Federal Direct PLUS Loans
Eligible parents of dependent undergraduate students may apply for Direct PLUS Loans to help cover educational expenses not met by other financial assistance. Federal credit requirements and borrowing limits apply.
Federal student loans must be repaid with interest. Loan eligibility, interest rates, borrowing limits, and repayment terms are established by federal regulations.
For additional information, visit Federal Student Aid.
Additional Financial Assistance
ANHO may accept or participate in additional funding opportunities, depending on student eligibility, program approval, and funding availability.
These may include:
- Florida state financial assistance programs.
- CareerSource Palm Beach County training assistance and scholarships.
- Community Action Program assistance.
- Veterans’ education benefits.
- Private scholarships and other approved funding sources.
Students are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office for information regarding available funding opportunities.
Veterans Education Benefits
ANHO assists eligible students who wish to use approved U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits.
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 3679(e), eligible students using Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 education benefits will not be penalized solely because of delayed VA tuition and fee payments when applicable statutory requirements are satisfied.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Eligibility
Financial aid eligibility is determined using several factors, including the Student Aid Index (SAI), Cost of Attendance (COA), enrollment status, academic progress, and other financial assistance received.
Student Aid Index (SAI)
The SAI is calculated using information provided on the FAFSA. It is used to help determine eligibility for need-based financial assistance. The SAI is not the amount a student or family is required to pay.
Cost of Attendance (COA)
The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of educational expenses for a specified enrollment period. Depending on the student’s circumstances, it may include:
- Tuition and fees.
- Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Housing and food.
- Transportation.
- Personal expenses.
- Applicable federal student loan fees.
Determining Financial Need
Financial need is generally calculated by subtracting the Student Aid Index and other financial assistance from the Cost of Attendance.
Eligibility for non-need-based aid is generally determined by subtracting other financial assistance from the Cost of Attendance, subject to applicable program limits and requirements.
The Financial Aid Office reviews each student’s eligibility and provides information regarding available financial assistance.
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Students receiving federal financial aid must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in accordance with ANHO’s established SAP policy and federal requirements.
SAP standards include:
- Maintaining the required cumulative grade point average or equivalent academic standard.
- Successfully completing the required percentage of attempted coursework.
- Completing the program within the established maximum timeframe.
Students who do not meet SAP requirements may become ineligible for federal financial aid.
Students should refer to ANHO’s current Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for detailed requirements, evaluation procedures, and appeal options.
Financial Aid Disbursements and Credit Balances
Federal financial aid is disbursed in accordance with applicable federal regulations and institutional policies.
When federal Title IV funds credited to a student’s account exceed allowable institutional charges, a Title IV credit balance may occur.
ANHO pays Title IV credit balances directly to the student or parent, as applicable, within federally required timeframes, generally no later than 14 days after the credit balance occurs or the first day of the payment period, depending on when the balance is created.
Any authorization to hold Title IV credit balances is subject to applicable federal requirements.
